Module 3
Using a trial version of Harmony
assistant I created a short musical score. I chose to create Techno style with Electro arrangement. The interface for Harmony assistant was fairly intuitive so it didn't take too long to have a music score up and running after a few minutes. It helped that I have a little music background and I was able to create something that was a little melodic. It would have been much easier to input sound with a Korg Nanokey a flexible MIDI keyboard controller that's smaller than a laptop keyboard. These are fairly inexpensive and sell for less than $100.
Harmony assistant is relatively inexpensive software. I can see that it would not take too long to be able to master this software and produce some interesting copyright free scores. In many ways it looks to be a windows equivalent to Garage Band for Apple computers.
The trial version only allowed for the exporting of the first few seconds of my creation. Also I was unable to save any projects. I exported the same score in a variety of formats with different quality settings. Then I chose quicktime to open each file. I found the midi file could only be opened using wmp. However when ambeded into the webpage my browser could not play it. I tried for four days to find a way for it to play online but came up with no solutions.
mp3 (73.8kb)
mp3 (120kb)
mp3 (143kb)
wav (0.99MB)
wav (2.99MB)
download midi file 1 (5.12kb)
download midi file 2 (6.23kb)
I found it impossible to embed a midi file in my webpage. The text stated I did not have the correct midi player installed on my computer however I had quicktime 7 Pro with the midi file format checked and I also upgraded my Windows Media Player and neither would play the file format. I asked the assistance of a computer technician and he did not seem to be able to solve the problem. I have provided a link to these files to download.
